Reach Back Once Success Is Achieved
We all need to reach back once success is achieved. A local thriving entrepreneur approached me recently to offer his assistance once he found out that I was looking for a manufacturer to fabricate a prototype of my invention. As we built our relationship, his administrative assistant was unaware of some of the conversations that him and I were having offline. She requested that I send him the “normal” information to proceed with the project even though he did not require me to do so.
Rather than get frustrated, like I would have done in the past, I decided to press forward in lieu of him. And here’s where three words that I live by - activity breeds activity - come into play. I received an email from him asking me to call him. When I did, he apologized for the actions of his administrative assistant and confirmed that we could still proceed as originally discussed.
I want to encourage all you business owners and inventors to not give up! There will be many times in business when things aren’t running smoothly. But it is through perseverance and dedication that success is achieved. And once you have reached success, it is imperative to other Black entrepreneurs that you reach back and help them. One of the biggest challenges with starting and running a business, especially a black-owned business, is affording the support you need to be successful.
The entrepreneur that I speak of understands the importance of reaching back. He had his ears open listening for opportunities to be of assistance and when he heard of my situation, he reached out and gave me a hand. No matter what stage you are in your business, there is always someone who is not as far along as you. It may be in time in business or just experience level. So make sure you reach back once success is achieved. I KNOW THERE IS SOMEONE WHO WILL APPRECIATE YOU FOR IT!
